CodeBuddy Web

CodeBuddy Web is a browser entry provided by CNB Workspaces. It lets you use CodeBuddy Code's AI coding capabilities in the browser without installing a local client.
When to use: when you want AI-assisted coding in the browser and would rather not install a local client — just make sure the codebuddy command is in the image, see the version requirement below.
Getting Started
Click Workspaces in the top-right corner of a repository's branch page to create or open a workspace, then click CodeBuddy Web on the entry selection page or the My Workspaces list page to start coding in the browser-based CodeBuddy UI.
Comparison with WebIDE
CodeBuddy Web and WebIDE are both browser-based entries of CNB Workspaces, each with a different focus:
| Dimension | WebIDE (code-server) | CodeBuddy Web |
|---|---|---|
| Positioning | Full VS Code editor | Browser UI of CodeBuddy Code |
| Interaction | Direct code editing | AI-driven coding |
| Client | Browser, no install | Browser, no install |
| Requires | Built-in by default | Image has codebuddy (>= 2.137.0) |
- WebIDE: a full VS Code experience, best for manual editing and debugging.
- CodeBuddy Web: the browser UI of CodeBuddy Code, best for AI-assisted coding.
Version Requirement
CodeBuddy Web is only available when the workspace image satisfies:
- The
codebuddycommand is installed - The
codebuddyversion is2.137.0or later
For custom development environments, make sure @tencent-ai/codebuddy-code (which provides the codebuddy command) is installed in the image. If the image has no codebuddy or the version is too low, those entries are not shown. See Custom Development Environments to install a codebuddy that meets the version requirement.
CodeBuddy Web needs no extra configuration beyond the codebuddy command being available in the image. With a custom image, install it in .ide/Dockerfile:
# .ide/Dockerfile
FROM node:22
# Install CodeBuddy Code, which provides the codebuddy command; version must be >= 2.137.0
RUN npm install -g @tencent-ai/codebuddy-codeThen point the Workspaces pipeline at that Dockerfile in .cnb.yml:
$: # Fallback matching all branches not matched by glob
vscode:
- docker:
build: .ide/Dockerfile
services:
- vscodeOnce the workspace is created, the CodeBuddy Web entry appears if the image meets the version requirement.
